Last December, we reported (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/08/handheld-gamers-moving-from-dedicated-devices-to-smartphones/) on survey results showing that users of portable games are increasingly defecting from dedicated devices such as the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP to smartphones such as the iPhone.

Hmmm... now that you mentioned it, I don't think it has any jumper pins in it. I pulled it from an old Tivo box. What jumper does it need to have if I already have my main drive on SCSI?

I had that problem and the cause for me was the permissions. Some permissions were corrupt on the startup volume. This fixed it.

you want it to make all those noises?? http://www.vwvortex.com/zeroforum_graphics/screwy.gif
in any case, read the above post, that should take care of it.
I don't really want the sounds, but they are helpful for troubleshooting. Also, if something is wrong with the modem, I just want to know about it. I could take the thing back to Apple if it's not working properly.

Most (if not all) new cell phones in America have built in GPS as a result of an FCC mandate for Enhanced 9-1-1 capability in mobile devices. Apple may simply be taking this required expense and turning it into a way to get more value in their device by linking it with a built in camera/iPhoto/GoogleMaps. This certainly seems like one of those "why didn't anyone else do that?" sort of (in retrospect) obvious moves that Apple is great at.
Well, someone (or rather, many someones) else have done that on the device side already:
http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/03/hidden_gps_photo_feature_on_th.html
I actually thought this was more widespread (cell phones tagging GPS location), but the page linked above says that Sanyo was the first to offer this in the US, last March. So, hmm.
The other approach used for this purpose is to time-synch (within reason) a handheld GPS tracker and your camera's clock, then run software afterwards which plots the pictures on the GPS trail from the tracker. This has been around for ages, but is about five steps beyond what the average Joe would be able to do to enjoy space-mapping of pictures.
Still, aside from sites like Flickr that display the GPS data, there's not much use for it yet. This is where Apple's classic whole-widget approach would pay off: make it easy to get the data into your photos, make it easy to see the data visually, and make it easy to search for the data via Spotlight et al.
Anyway: has anyone tried entering the Latitude/Longitude EXIF info in a picture, import it to iPhoto, and see what happens?

Hello,
I am writing a Cocoa application and I am running into a problem, when closing the about box to my app the application terminates. I call the following method so that when my main window closes the app terminates:

I can't believe AT&T still won't unlock iPhones: In the UK, O2 will unlock anyone's contract phone for free (you just need to ask), and a PAYG one for 15 (plus the loss of the free web bolt on you get for the first 12 months).

If it is an Aluminium MBP (early 2008) and not one of the current Unibody MBPs (late 2008), maybe this applies: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377

Looks nice. Maybe the header is to high. I would prefer it if you squeeze the ad between the logo and the tabs for less scrolling.

You're forming a URL, so the URL needs be properly encoded. For example, a space needs to be encoded as %20. But don't do this manually, use NSString's stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:

It's saying it on both iTunes & the phone, so would this be some sort of horrific software coincidence or a hardware fault do you reckon?

The blog post was from 2 years ago!!!
Right, but judging by the comments, since there was one from yesterday, and January I figured there is still a bug.
And actually, this code did work for me. Because using the default apple code it wouldn't encode the & in URLs and it would mess up my program. But using the code from the blog post it works!

Is Installous still going to work? It's the program for installing free{=pirated} apps
No, it doesn't work anymore. You have to pay for apps now.

The real deal on resolution independance, is that instead of the UI being made up of images, PDFs I believe, it will be drawn using vectors. so a OS can scale anything to any size, and it will never become pixalized, because it's being drawn fresh using math instead of images.
